Over the past 72 years, since October 2, 1945, the Geological Survey of Vietnam has overcome many difficulties, challenges, made many outstanding achievements, contributing to the development of the country.

For the geological sector, the search and evaluation of minerals is the first important objective and task to ensure the security of mineral materials contributing to the development of industries and agriculture in our country. Before 1990, geological units searched, discovered and explored many mineral areas such as coal, iron ore, copper, lead, zinc, bauxite, rare earth, apatite, graphite, rock kaolin, feldspar, clay ... So far, more than 5,000 ore occurrences, mines of over 60 minerals have been surveyed and some mines have been evaluated in the deep bottom.

Especially, in recent years, on the basis of systematic investigation and assessment, some of the potential minerals have been clarified as the basis for the development of the mining and processing industries. titanium, bauxite, apatite, rare earth, coal, uranium, white sand, marble, white marble, cement limestone. This is the premise to form and develop into big corporations and corporations in the mining industry such as Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group, Vietnam Chemical Group, Vietnam Steel Corporation, Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation ...

There are only a few mines such as Tin Tuc Tin, Bong Mieu gold, Ben market, Chiem Hoa antimony, Nghe An phosphorus, Dam Doi, Khe Bo coal ... exploited in the first phase. coal mines, metallic minerals, non-metals, building materials, cement materials, mineral water ... are being exploited and processed nationwide. Output value of the mining industry is increasing, contributing significantly to the total annual state budget revenues.
In addition, the State management of minerals has always been strengthened and effective. Especially, after the Mineral Law of 2010 was promulgated, the implementation of the Law and Resolution No 02-NQ / TW dated 25/4/2011 of the Politburo on mineral strategy and orientation for industrial development by 2020, a vision to 2030, is an important document that has been issued for the first time in a strategic, long-term orientation to promote the sustainable development of the mining industry. The The capacity of State management agencies in charge of minerals from the central to local levels has been improved to meet the requirements of management in the period of international economic integration.

In reviewing the 6 years of implementation of the revised Mineral Law, Mr. Do Canh Duong, Director General of the General Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam, said that the basic geological survey of minerals was promoted; The management and licensing of mineral activities are increasingly tightened, based on the mineral strategy and master plan approved by the competent authority, associated with mineral processing activities, with the requirements of sustainable development. , protecting the environment and not affecting defense and security; tourist sites, historical and cultural relics ... have assessed the value of reserves of mines already licensed to affirm the mineral resources for socio-economic development of the country.

In addition, our mining industry has initially shifted from "wide" development to "deep" development in order to use economically and economically.

With outstanding achievements in the process of building and development, the Geological Branch of Vietnam has been awarded with many noble awards by the Party and State, especially the branch was awarded Gold Star Medal - High Order The most precious of the State. This is a great honor for Vietnam Geology.
